Did Jersey Shore Have An Influence On Pop Culture?

By Jesse Lenderman

In this post I'm going to tell you everything that I understand as it pertains to Jersey Shore.

From 2009 to 2012, only 3 years, Jersey Shore was on the MTV cable network.

Filmed in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, the tv show is about the lives of eight young guys and girls, called guidos and guidettes, who lived for a time in the popular N.J. town and whom were followed regularly by cameras, shooting their every move. The participants that were cast became larger than life, becoming involved with various scenarios in their work and individual lives - some of which were rather astonishing. It was actually these various personalities and how they meshed that made the show so enticing and popular.

To be honest, I offer my opinion that the series was rather appealing to see. The guidos are occasionally just funny.

But, what is a guido anyway? Guido is defined as "driver." It is an Italian-American word utilized to describe particular types of men and gals with attributes that could be called narcissistic. Guidos generally have well defined bodies and are young and tanned. Male guidos spend a lot of time in the weight room. Guidettes, on the other side, share comparable personality traits with their male equivalents. Dressing suggestively seems to be a usual theme with guidettes. Plus, putting on jewelry is generally a requirement for both guys and girls.

As the tv series got going, the reception in Seaside Heights was not at all welcoming They assumed that filming such a suggestive reality series isn't beneficial for their small community. Nevertheless, they gave up in the end and the series was given a green light.

The fascinating aspect of Jersey Shore is the fact that the house where the guidos and guidettes lived during the show was in fact filled with cameras. The showering room was the only area not recorded by 24 hour cameras. In truth, numerous people in the show disclosed later that they frequently escaped the glare of the lense by hiding in that room and spending a great deal of hours in there. It was additionally disclosed that much of the "bad behavior" was actually done to stage a show for the cameras. Those cameras had such a substantial impact on them.

Sadly for them, the television critics were not kind to Jersey Shore. Plus, many Italian Americans were rather put-off as their perception of "Guido" is that of an ethnic slur.

As the program continued airing, the controversy was pervasive as well with demonstrations and significant sponsors canceling contracts. It was these reactions that finally put an end to the show.

To summarize, I would say that this program wasn't even supposed to be seen by adults. Controversial actions that can solely be understood by that age group were frequently aired during "family viewing times" - when supposedly moms and dads and children are viewing. In the end, it was simply a mediocre show that offered a lot of enjoyable times for horny teenagers.
