When creating an abstract watercolor painting, the artist has to follow a certain process wherein he will be brainstorming, conceptualizing, and then painting. There is a misconception in most people that abstract artists would just randomly paint using random colors and random strokes. Of course the truth is that artists in this field are actually painting an object in their own perspective.
Of course before one would start out, he would have to first get his necessary materials and equipment. The two most important things that he will be needing would be a palette filled with different colors of paint and a really good paintbrush. Some other things that he will need would be a cup of water and a canvas.
The next thing to do is to simply pick an object of interest to start on. Of course this may be any still life like a vase of flowers, a bowl of fruit, a tree, a plant, a flower, or anything that is not moving. Once one has already decided on what object he would want to focus on, then he will now have to concentrate on it fully.
After choosing the object and concentrating on it, it is good for a beginner to first lightly draw the object on the canvas. This will help the artist be able to create something out of the simple drawing because the simple drawing will act as a point of reference. So if one is not a seasoned painter, then he may do this step first so that he will not have a hard time.
Upon drawing the object, one may now conceptualize how he will be able to paint that object. An abstract artist thinks differently as compared to regular people which means that he views that object differently as compared to others as well. So basically, he just has to conceptualize how he will put his perception of the object on paper.
Once that is done, then he can start mixing the paints and start working on the project. Of course he may start with one stroke of any color and just let his creative juices flow out. Of course the strokes that he will use would be based on the light drawing that he made a while ago.
The last step here is to edit the artwork a little bit by adding a bit more layers to add some color and strokes. Now editing the artwork is very important because it will either make or break it. So one has to just continue putting some more strokes and colors that are nice so the finished outcome is beautiful.
So as one can see, making an abstract watercolor painting is not just about randomly swinging paint around on a canvas and seeing what comes out after doing that. If the artist just randomly flings paint around, then his artwork has no real substance in it. Even though many people regard these types of work as pieces with no actual meaning, they all actually do have deeper meanings to them.
